Our History — 2000 to 2009

2009 Highlights

  1. Launched new products and features to enhance Internet experience for customers including Hot Deals website and Faster Site Finder toolbar.
  2. Expanded DSL Internet footprint, adding 2.5 million additional households in 34 markets across 15 states. EarthLink's DSL and cable Internet services offering is available to approximately 75 million households nationwide

2008 Highlights

  1. EarthLink increased its high-speed Internet coverage by expanding its broadband cable service in the Los Angeles and Dallas markets.

2007 Highlights

  1. EarthLink launched a Freestanding DSL service, which lets consumers receive high-speed Internet access without having to purchase local telephone service from their phone company.
  2. EarthLink began offering a new layer of protection with the launch of the EarthLink Security Center. Available to all Internet users, this Web site is a trusted source of news, information and recommendations for anyone with questions about Internet threats like spam, spyware and phisher sites.

2006 Highlights

  1. EarthLink expanded the addressable market for its DSL and Home Phone service to over ten million households in twelve markets: Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, TX, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, CA, Seattle, WA, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

2005 Highlights

  1. EarthLink expanded its converged voice and data offerings with two new services -- EarthLink trueVoice and EarthLink DSL and Home Phone Service bundle.

2004 Highlights

  1. EarthLink received the Readers' Choice Award for dial up access from PC Magazine for the second year in a row.
  2. EarthLink launched the Research in Motion (RIM) BlackBerry 7750 Wireless Handheld™ with wireless email and voice service and rolled out EarthLink Free Online Calling.
  3. EarthLink launched the next generation of its anti-phisher site application, ScamBlocker. EarthLink was the first and only major ISP to develop and openly distribute a free phisher-blocking feature to all Internet users.
  4. EarthLink launched EarthLink High Speed 3.0, a new DSL Internet service that is up to 70 times faster than the average dial-up connection.

2003 Highlights

  1. EarthLink added its Spyware Blocker and Virus Blocker to its suite of protection tools in the fourth quarter. EarthLink was the first major Internet service provider to provide software to combat spyware at no additional charge to our customers.
  2. EarthLink rolled out its Parental Controls which delivers over 14,000 kid-friendly Web sites and can be tailored to block or permit access to sites at a parents' discretion.
  3. EarthLink received dual Readers' Choice Awards from PC Magazine for both its broadband Internet and dialup access services. EarthLink was the only broadband provider to be honored that offers both broadband DSL Internet and broadband cable Internet access.
  4. With the launch of spamBlocker, EarthLink became the first major Internet service provider to offer customers at no additional charge, an optional feature that enables its subscribers to eliminate virtually 100 percent of all junk email.
  5. EarthLink received a CNET Editors' Choice award for its EarthLink Plus dial up connection service which debuted in the first quarter.
  6. To grow its narrowband subscriber base, EarthLink began providing an accelerated dial-up service.

2000 to 2002 Highlights

  1. EarthLink became the first major Internet provider (ISP) to include, at no additional charge, a new feature that lets subscribers block annoying pop-up advertisements.
  2. Continuing its expansion in the wireless Internet arena, EarthLink announced the launch of EarthLink Wireless High Speed powered by Boingo Wireless.
  3. Citing EarthLink's "cool tools and reliability," CNET for the third consecutive year awarded top honors to EarthLink in its annual review of Internet Service Providers (ISP).
  4. EarthLink received the only five-star rating among Internet service providers from the editors of Ziff Davis Smart Business.
  5. EarthLink achieved top honors among Internet service providers, according to Interactive Week magazine.
  6. EarthLink receives PC World magazine's 2000 World Class Award for best Internet service provider.

  • 2009 EarthLink receives the prestigious Calibre Environmental Award
    At their 21st annual Calibre Awards, the Southern California Chapter of the International Interior Design Association recognized EarthLink's exceptional achievements in the energy efficient and environmentally conscientious design and construction of the 2nd floor Buildout of the Bradley Building.

  • 2008 EarthLink receives LEED (Leadership in Engineering and Environmental Design) Gold Certification for Commercial Interiors.
    This award was presented by the US Green Building Council ( for the construction of the 2nd floor of the Earthlink Building at 2947 Bradley, St, Pasadena, and it was the 1st award of its type in the City of Pasadena.

  • 2005 EarthLink High Speed Cable Internet ranked #1 by PC World Magazine readers.
    PC World Magazine announced that EarthLink Cable Internet Service received the highest ranking in their ISP Satisfaction Survey.

  • 2005 CNET Editors' Choice award
    According to a June 6, 2005 review, CNET recommended EarthLink Web Hosting service for "generous storage and bandwidth" and "low-cost e-commerce solutions" saying "EarthLink offers all the tools you need to build a Web site, and it's easy to use."

  • 2004 PC Magazine Readers' Choice Award for dial up Internet access.

  • 2003 PC Magazine Readers' Choice Awards for both high-speed and dial-up services — EarthLink was the only Internet service provider to be honored for both high-speed and dial-up, and the only broadband provider honored offering both broadband DSL Internet access and broadband cable Internet access.

  • 2003 CNET Editors' Choice award— According to a May 5, 2003 review, CNET recommended EarthLink dial up Internet access with Accelerator "if you're in the market for a fast, full-service ISP but aren't willing to fork over $40 to $60 a month for broadband."

  • 2002 CNET Editors' Choice Award-CNET for the third consecutive year has awarded top honors to EarthLink in its annual review of Internet service providers.

  • 2002 Ziff Davis Smart Business "Five-Star Award"—EarthLink received the only five-star rating among Internet providers from the editors. The magazine selected the Atlanta-based ISP as its "top pick."

  • 2001 Mobile Computing's "First Class Award"—They write, "Once again, our First Class Award goes to EarthLink, but not just for providing a fast and reliable connection to the Internet without pop-up ads. This international ISP has rounded out its offerings by adding two pricing plans...and more important, by supporting a wide variety of wireless-access devices."

  • 2001 Inter@ctive Week's "Top Internet Service Provider" Award—For the second year in a row, EarthLink was honored with another award from Inter@ctive Week. "No Internet service provider is more deserving of a top spot in the ISP category than EarthLink. A combination of two hard-working providers, EarthLink and Mindspring, No. 1 fights hard to become a real alternative to America Online."

  • 2001 CNET Editors' Choice Award—CNET awarded EarthLink its Editors' Choice Award in the Internet service provider category for the second year in a row. In a review posted on, Contributing Editor Matt Lake called EarthLink the "best ISP on the market."

  • 2001 Ziff Davis Smart Business's "Best of the Best Awards"—The Ziff Davis editors named EarthLink best ISP two years running, while EarthLink Biz won honors as a Web Hosting finalist.

  • Inter@ctive Week's 2000 "ISP Olympics"—Gold & Silver Medals for Overall Customer Satisfaction — MindSpring and EarthLink were named first and second in Inter@ctive Week's annual Internet Service Provider Customer Satisfaction Survey.

  • 2000 PC World's Best ISP Award—PC World awarded EarthLink its best Internet service provider award in its "Best of 2000" awards.

  • 2000 Mobile Computing's Best ISP Award—Both EarthLink and MindSpring were named best Internet service provider in Mobile Computing's editorial review.

  • 2000 Smart Computing's Top ISP Award—MindSpring was named Smart Computing's top Internet service provider in their editorial review.

  • 2000 MacHome Journal's Best ISP Award—EarthLink was named best Internet service provider as determined by feedback from thousands of MacHome Journal readers.

  • 2000 CNET Editors' Choice Award—EarthLink was named CNET's Editors' Choice for best Internet service provider.

  • 1998 Money Magazine "Super Deal"—EarthLink was the only Internet service provider to be awarded this distinction.

  • PC Magazine Editor's Choice Award—EarthLink's service was judged best overall among 13 major Internet service providers and online services.

  • Mobile Computing's First Class award for best ISP.

  • Yahoo Internet Life, 1996—EarthLink's service was rated "the best" of national Internet access providers. EarthLink received three and a half stars out of a possible four.
